The Chicago Bears are coming off a dominating 38-0 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night at Soldier Field, which featured the preseason debuts for the team’s starters after sitting out the first game.
Quarterback Caleb Williams and the starting offense went 92 yards in seven plays to score a touchdown on their opening drive — a 36-yard touchdown from Williams to wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus. Meanwhile, the defense — starters and reserves — shut out the Bills backups in dominating fashion.

Following Sunday night’s preseason win over the Bills, head coach Ben Johnson was asked about whether the starters would see any action in the preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. While Johnson didn’t give a definitive answer, he said that Wednesday will feature a live, padded practice. But he did indicate that it’s something the coaches would like to see as it pertains to getting that valuable road experience.
“We’ll talk about it as a staff. We take into account the number of reps they’re having here. I know we’ll have a good, padded practice on Wednesday. We need one more of those. Then we’ll see what we need to see. I thought a big part of what tonight was about was getting our routine down for a home night game, which is week one for us. I thought our starters did a great job. They understood what the purpose was. They came out and got the job done and did what they needed to do and we got them out of the game. I thought the routine was a big part of it. This would be really the first time we’re on the road in a preseason. It’s probably good to go through that exercise as well.”
While a good number of teams opt to rest their starters in that final preseason game, this could be a good opportunity for Johnson to get his team some valuable experience in a road environment after back-to-back home games at Soldier Field. The starters had one or two series of action, so it wouldn’t be out of the question for them to see limited action for a series or so to wrap up the preseason.
For what it’s worth, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said his starters will be out there to start the game, so it could serve as valuable reps for starters on both sides.
