The Houston Texans are making a few switches to the roster ahead of their road trip against the Detroit Lions.
According to the team’s transaction list, the Texans are signing wide receivers Cornell Powell and Juwann Winfree following successful workouts. In a corresponding move, the Texans injured-waived wide receiver Xavier Johnson and released running back J.J. Taylor.

Powell, a former member of the Kansas City Chiefs, played last season in the United Football League for the DC Defenders, leading the league in touchdown catches. He finished with 29 catches for 419 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025.
Winfree, a former Denver Broncos sixth-round draft pick from Colorado, spent his rookie season on injured reserve before being released earlier this offseason.
Both are long shots to make the active roster, but at least one could be in line to make the practice squad with an impressive showing against the Lions in Saturday’s preseason finale.
