The Jaguars’ Travis Hunter has been working through an upper-body injury. One NFL insider provided a recent update.

Travis Hunter missed a week due to minor injury but hope is he’s nearing a full return to field in Thursday’s joint practice vs. Dolphins.

Hunter got his feet wet playing both offense & defense in preseason. Now, he’s set for regular season mode.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Travis Hunter was back on the practice field on Tuesday. However, he wasn’t quite a full participant.

According to John Shipley of Jaguars on SI, Hunter went through stretch and individual drills with the defensive backs. He also participated in walkthroughs. But during 7-on-7s and full-speed sessions, Hunter was off to the side.

This comes after Hunter did not play against New Orleans in the Jaguars‘ preseason game this past Sunday, and he also did not practice last Friday after Jacksonville’s scrimmage on Thursday.

Following last week’s practice, Liam Coen said Hunter was dealing with an upper body injury and said that his absence was precautionary. On Tuesday, Coen added that Hunter was day-to-day.

The Jaguars aren’t concerned with the injury that Hunter is working through, and NFL insider Cameron Wolfe echoed those sentiments.

“The hope is that when they get down to Miami for joint practices, he’ll be able to go full,” Wolfe said. “He’s got the upper-body injury, that’s a hockey term, everybody’s wondering, ‘hey, is that a sign of overuse?’ No, this is something very minor. I’m told if it was a regular season game last weekend, he would have played. It’s just a situation of them trying to get him closer to 100%.

“The hope is that he’s good to go Thursday and he can start playing both sides, defense and offense, against the Dolphins. They have no concerns for him Week 1, and yes, he will be the two-way star they intend him to be. Full time on offense, ease in on defense, and earning more reps as the season goes on.”

Over the last two weeks, we’ve seen Hunter switching back and forth between receiver and cornerback in the same practices.

Overall, he has spent more days on offense, but his snap count totals between the two sides of the ball are relatively equal. According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Hunter has played 173 snaps on offense during the 11-on-11 periods and 168 on defense.

Of the Jaguars’ 864 combined training camp snaps, Hunter has been on the field–at either wide receiver or cornerback–on 42.1% of them.
