The Los Angeles Rams have already held two joint practices with other teams, scrimmaging the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints in the last two weeks. If it were up to Sean McVay, though, they’d have had a third one this week.

McVay told reporters on Tuesday that the Rams wanted to hold a joint practice with the Cleveland Browns this week but it didn’t work out due to the schedule for each team. It sounds like the Browns already had other plans already set up for this week.

“I did. It didn’t fit for them,” McVay said. “We were supposed to go to Minnesota and practice against them in the third week. There were some logistics with regards to the NFC having two home games and one away and the AFC flipping that because of the nine and eight schedule now and the way that’s set up. We were trying to be able to do that. It didn’t work out. When the schedule was released and we’re playing the Browns in the third preseason game, I think Kevin (Stefanski) and his group already had some other stuff set up. It didn’t necessarily fit, but we have some plans to be able to do something similar with our group next Thursday.”

McVay and the Rams value these joint practices in a big way because they don’t play their starters in the preseason. That gives their top players an opportunity to face other teams in these scrimmages, getting different looks besides the ones they see every day in practice against the Rams offense or defense.

While the Rams won’t scrimmage the Browns, the two teams will square off in the preseason finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. That game is being played in Cleveland before the Rams head back home to Los Angeles for final roster cuts and Week 1 prep.
