On weekday mornings, Nevada Sports Net will recap three big headlines of the day in its Morning Download. Read below for today’s topics.
1. Could Nevada football use Lake Tahoe-themed uniforms?
UC Davis’ Lake Tahoe-themed uniforms and helmets revealed this summer drew equals parts praise and criticism. Some mocked the Aggies for trying to claim a lake more than 100 miles from its main campus. Others thought the uniforms were a cool branding tool. Nevada football coach Jeff Choate said at Mountain West media days Davis’ uniforms were “a fail,” although some Wolf Pack fans have wanted Nevada to jump on the Tahoe jersey theme. While that seems unlikely, Nevada supporter @DanInTheCloset asked AI to create such jerseys for the Wolf Pack, and you can see the results below. The guess here is a Tahoe jersey never happens as it’d look like Nevada was copying UC Davis, but the mockups below are sharp.
2. Ex-MLB pitcher seeks new trial after guilty verdict in Tahoe murder
Dan Serafini’s sentencing was delayed Monday after he filed a motion for a new trial following a guilty verdict last month. The former MLB pitcher was found guilty in Place County Superior Court on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder in a 2021 shooting that left his father-in-law dead and mother-in-law injured in the North Lake Tahoe ambush. The case’s judge agreed to hear the defense’s motion Oct. 28 when his sentencing will be continued. Serafini also requested a change in attorneys.
3. Nevada track standout takes part in Pan American Games
Wolf Pack track and field standout Valeria Paez-Rueda is competing for Mexico in the Junior Pan American Games this week in the heptathlete. The PanAm Games are taking place in Paraguay from Aug. 9-23. Valeria Paez-Rueda finished in sixth place in the heptathlon at last year’s Mountain West Championships with top-five finishes in that event’s high jump, javelin and shot put categories. We featured Paez-Rueda here.
