CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The depth on the Cincinnati Bengals offensive line took a hit this preseason when guard Cordell Volson injured his shoulder. Head coach Zac Taylor on Wednesday said Volson will need surgery and is likely lost for the season.

Taylor confirmed that Volson, who was in a backup role, suffered the injury in practice.

Volson, who started 15 games at left guard but was demoted late in the season, was running with the second team throughout training camp. Rookie Dylan Fairchild, a third-round draft pick, is the likely starter.

The Bengals restructured Volson’s contract this offseason. He signed a 1-year, $2.6 million deal that includes $500k guaranteed, per-game active bonuses, & likely incentives. A 2022 fourth-round pick, Volson was benched for two of the Bengals’ final six games last season.

Jalen Rivers, who was drafted this year in the fifth round, and veteran free agent guard Lucas Patrick, are the other players battling for a potential starting spot at guard.
