JuJu Smith-Schuster addresses media ahead of Chiefs-Bears game
OK. Usually you’re an experienced guy in the locker room, and you know you got *** lot of receivers that have provided depth throughout camp, but they’re all competing for jobs now. Just what is your advice to those guys that are, you know, trying to make this fit for? Yeah, I mean those guys, you know, my advice to them is that, you know, every opportunity to make the best of it, um. For *** lot of, um, *** lot of young guys I would say, and throughout the preseason, you know, you get those chances to go out there, you know, you work, you know, whether it’s blocking, you know, making plays catching the football, and you know, for *** lot of them it’s also for other scouts, all other 31 teams to look at, you know, our film vice versa. So what they put on tape is, is good, you know, they’re all getting evaluated and for the guys to make this team, like I said, just knowing every position, go out there, be coachable, be *** sponge and just basically make, you know, make your opportunities the most of it. What impressed you most about guys like Ty one and Jay when hey not playing Friday, but just *** lot of those guys um part of the show. Yeah, I mean this offense is not, uh, it’s not an easy offense, you know, to learn, you know, coming here, especially my first time, especially as *** young guy coming from *** college playbook to where the hatches are *** lot wider and the plays are, you know, *** lot simpler for so. You know, for Jaylen and him just being who he is and being able to be coachable throughout those times and seeing Tykwon grow, you know, I’ve been with him and he was with the Patriots, so seeing him come from there to here and seeing, you know, open up and you know, stretch the field has helped us out *** lot. So it’s pretty nice to see that, you know, these guys are coming along. Looking back at you, you know, you spent *** year in, in New England, it seems like you’re, you’re in really good shape and you feel what good now I guess as you look back, how happy are you that the things worked out the way they did to back up. Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, I, I’ve just been praying *** lot, honestly, you know, being able to just stay, you know, with his word and his faith and. You know, things happen for *** reason and you know, like I said, I am, I am happy to be back here playing with the guys here and you know it feels great, you know, it feels like home, you know, miss the barbecue and everything else that comes with it, but you know I’ll say this off season I took *** lot of, you know, just *** lot of focus on myself and my shape and my health, you know, being able to come out here and. And you said the older you get is, it’s, you know, you gotta compete with these young guys so it’s nice that you know the motivation is still here and fire my heart. So yeah, KC is fun and I enjoy it here, not just the, the teams but the fans and people. Did you we were seeing you after practice, for example, work with, with some guys, some of the younger guys, was that something when you came back that that people have talked to you about wanting you to do? Is that just something you did on on your record? I, I, I think naturally it just, you know, I’m *** guy, you know, I’m *** people’s person, so I, you know, I would like to help you out with the guys, you know, especially in learning plays, studying plays, and, you know, for me, I remember when I was *** rookie and you know you. Some of the older guys took time out of their day who had family who had things going on, I had to spend time with them. So yeah, throughout camp, I mean, I would spend an hour after practice or after meetings, you know, with the younger guys just trying to get them to get their plays down because man this is this is their livelihood, man, you know they’ve been playing football since they were kids, so for them, you know, this is the more they can get, you know, out of *** veteran, uh, it, it’s nice to, to help them out because I know it goes *** long way, not just for them but you know for the future. So yeah, it, it is very important to tell about those guys. What about you? How’s your camp going? I mean, how’s your buildup to this man, I’m excited. Uh, camp is going great, um, you know, like I said. Got to be back for another year. Uh, I feel like it’s the best shape I’ve ever been in, you know. I feel great, you know, going into the season. So like I said, being able to just wherever I can help at filling the void, filling the spots, and, you know, keep these guys going, you know, it’s gonna be *** long season, uh, with, with our schedule and how it is, it’s gonna be super exciting, you know, first game in Brazil, super excited about that. So just trying to stay, you know, ahead of the course. It seems that man you kind of said Patrick is even taking it to slightly another level. Do you sense that? And, and if so, like in what ways have you seen? Uh, I mean, I would say definitely him coming into the season, you can tell he’s *** lot lighter mobility you can see and I would say obviously his next level of like seeing the next play, seeing the play ahead and kind of like visualizing it has helped us out *** lot, you know, we’re able to see coverages, uh, uh, more so far ahead because, you know, we’re on the same page with him, and I think that’s just more so just being around with Trav too, you know, when you see *** guy like Trav, you know, he’s still doing it at the high level. At how old he is, you know, it’s cool to see that because then now all the young guys kind of like rally around that and kind of rally around Pat and you just see like, OK, cool, like they’re taking to the next level, it just brings everybody else to that next level. So, um, those guys are they set the bar really really high here and I I think that’s awesome, um. When you have, I always say when you have guys like the veteran players working hard every day, showing up every day, putting in the work, putting in the effort, it just makes the younger guys kinda just follow and that that becomes the the expectation here. So every day you you gotta show up and work every day so um. In on the field and off the field, you know, you can see that *** lot, so that they’re definitely taking it to the next level. Do you, how did you get yourself in such good shape? First of all, I moved to San Diego, so I kind of just focused on just honestly what I, what I did was, you know, I got the right people around me, uh, the right guys. Uh, my coach that I trained with was Keith Bell, so we trained out in San Diego and, you know, we pretty much did like two *** days pretty much and, you know, trained every single day and I think *** lot of times I, you know. Would put my family first when it comes to the offseason, but this time I kinda like took *** ahead of myself to put myself first and you know, really focus on that. So you know this offense is, you know, you gotta run fast, so gotta keep going. Take care. And you guys like sushi.
