The Pittsburgh Steelers have had plenty of headlines this summer, whether it’s been about Rodgers, Tomlin, or TJ Watt and his contract situation.
But there’s been one storyline that has been lost with the team preparing for the 2025 season.
It’s been reported that the running game has looked lackluster throughout the offseason and into the preseason.
“They haven’t had ONE good day of running the ball all summer. Not in training camp and not in the preseason,” a Steelers source told 93.7 The Fan.
The Steelers let running back Najee Harris walk in free agency after four seasons with the team.
Pittsburgh will now have to rely on three running backs: veteran Jaylen Warren, rookie Kaleb Johnson, and new addition Kenneth Gainwell.
However, the trio hasn’t flashed in the preseason.
During the Steelers’ preseason opener, only Johnson played in the game as he posted 20 rushing yards on eight carries.
Then, last weekend, Johnson once again led the way, posting 50 rushing yards on 11 attempts.
He also added one catch for nine receiving yards.

But Gainwell had just two yards on two carries, and Warren once again didn’t play.
The offensive line, however, has seemingly done the running game no favors, per reporters.
Nonetheless, this is offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s second season in the Steel City and will be commmitted to a physical, downhill running game.
He felt that the running game improved in the latest preseason game.
