The 2025 NFL regular season is a little more than tow weeks away, as the Philadelphia Eagles will host the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, Sept. 4.

While one week remains in the preseason, teams are finalizing their rosters ahead of Week 1. NFL teams have been quite busy in this department, too. Four trades have taken place on Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening, August 20. It’s rare to see this much movement at this stage of the preseason, but we got a lot of action.

The Chiefs, Broncos and Browns, among other teams, were all involved in trades on one of the final days of the preseason.

The Chiefs, 49ers, Broncos, Saints, Vikings, Jets and Browns all made trades on Wednesday. In total, four trades were made.

Here’s the full breakdown:

Chiefs traded WR Skyy Moore and a 7th round draft pick to the 49ers for a 6th round pick.

Broncos traded WR Devaughn Vele and a 7th round draft pick to the Saints for a 4th round draft pick.

Vikings traded DT Harrison Phillips and a 7th round draft pick to the Jets for two 6th round draft picks.

The Browns traded DT Jowon Briggs and a 7th round draft pick to the Jets for a 6th round draft pick.

More NFL trades could be coming

NFL teams have to cut down their rosters on Tuesday, August 26. The 32 teams across the league have to get down to 53 players by that Tuesday. Instead of cutting a player, teams will look to trade them, perhaps for NFL Draft pick compensation – as we saw in all four trades on Wednesday.

New York Jets beat writer Antwan Staley noted this possibility on Wednesday night.

“BTW, NFL cut down day in August 26, so expect more trades to come in the next few days,” he wrote.

He added: “It is a good time of the year because the season is close but it sucks for some players who will be looking for work after Tuesday.”

The possibility of a blockbuster trade or two remains, too

None of the four trades made on Wednesday would qualify as blockbusters, but there’s a growing possibility that we could get one before Week 1.

Both Cowboys star Micah Parsons and Bengals star Trey Hendrickson have asked out, as they’re seeking new contract extensions that their respective teams have yet to give them.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Bengals have been talking to other teams for a while now about a possible Hendrickson trade.

“Teams that have recently inquired about Bengals star Trey Hendrickson were told Cincinnati’s asking price included a young defensive player and a 2026 first-round pick, according to league sources. The player heading back does not have to be a pass rusher,” she reported.

Meanwhile, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Cowboys and Parsons seem headed for a divorce, which could spark a trade possibility.

“It feels more likely that these sides are heading for a divorce today,” Schefter told the Pat McAfee Show.

More movement could be coming ahead of the first week of the 2025 NFL regular season in September.
