The Denver Broncos have agreed to sign seventh-round draft pick Caleb Lohner to a four-year rookie contract, according to the Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson. Lohner is expected to sign the contract on Thursday ahead of the start of rookie minicamp.

Based on the collective bargaining agreement with players and NFL team owners (with a hat tip to Spotrac.com), Lohner’s four-year deal is expected to have a total value of about $4,309,292. Over the next four seasons, Lohner’s salaries are projected to be $867,323, $1,032,323, $1,147,323 and $1,262,323.

The Broncos used the 241st pick in April’s NFL draft to select Lohner, a developmental tight end who spent the first four years of his college career playing basketball before arriving at Utah and switching to football. He only caught four passes last fall — but all of them went for touchdowns.

Denver’s staff clearly sees something in the 6-7, 256-pound prospect. He now joins a tight end room that includes Evan Engram, Adam Trautman, Nate Adkins, Lucas Krull and international player pathway participant Thomas Yassmin.
