Paraag Marathe has had his hands full with the Rangers takeover – so much so he’s not had time for his usual chats with one former Leeds owner.
The Leeds United chairman was part of a delegation who visited Ibrox last week that included Andrew Cavenagh and Gretar Steinsson as the San Francisco 49-ers backed takeover edges closer to completion.
Record Sport first broke the story back in February and it’s been a long, drawn-out process complicated by the spread of shareholders who will be required to sell up for the consortium to take a controlling share.
Marathe is just one of the key players involved and Andrea Radrizanni, from whom the 49ers acquired a controlling stake in Leeds, says the Elland Road supremo has been a busy man with what’s going on at Ibrox.
He told Sky Sports: “I speak to him normally a couple of times every month and we stay in touch during the season, we comment about Leeds, we comment about other football trends, but particularly about Leeds and we just spoke recently this week when he was in Leeds.
“But he was also busy in Rangers looking for new opportunities, so I’m in touch with them very often.”
We understand Cavenagh is the frontman of the deal but Marathe and Steinsson both have big roles to play, first in getting the takeover over the line then in the future running of Rangers.
The news comes after it broke earlier today that the next manager at Ibrox will be someone with no prior involvement with the club, appearing to rule out Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat as well as current interim boss Barry Ferguson.
