While the Houston Texans offensive line is far from complete, coach DeMeco Ryans came away pleased with the results during the team’s joint practice on Thursday afternoon against the Detroit Lions.

The starting five is starting to find its groove. Since Cam Robinson suffered an injury at The Greenbrier earlier this offseason, the same five options have worked drills in front of C.J. Stroud, with little rotation between several options.

That’s led to a cohesive balance and continuity in the passing attack. That’s given Stroud higher confidence heading into the regular season showdown against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 7.

“It’s a pop every time the ball snapped,” Stroud said following practice. “It starts with Jake [Andrews]. Jake has done a good job of IDing things. Him and Laken [Tomlinson] are like the first ones to kick it off. Ed [Ingram] is right there, Tytus [Howard] is right there, ‘Tae’ [Ersery], it’s a group that’s a lot of dogs. So, I’m really happy that we’re able to run the ball like we have because that opens up everything else.”

Last week in the preseason victory over the Carolina Panthers, Houston’s projected starting offensive line — minus an injured Howard — only allowed one pressure in 25 snaps. Granted, the Panthers had one of the more timid pass rushes in the league last season, but the Texans allowed 54 sacks in 2024.

The Texans close out the preseason this Saturday at noon CT. Houston then must trim its roster down from 78 to 53 by Tuesday’s deadline.
