The decision is good news for the Minnesota Vikings, who could get a good draft pick out of it. Depending on Jones’ playing time, the Vikings could receive a fourth-round compensatory pick in next year’s draft.

What’s the threshold on playing time to receive a fourth-rounder? If Jones plays 60.6% of all the Colts’ offensive snaps, the Vikings will likely receive the fourth-round pick. If he fails to play that many snaps, the Vikings will likely receive a fifth-round pick.
Minnesota wanted to retain Jones this offseason, but he chose to sign with the Colts because he would have a better opportunity to start. The move paid off for Jones, and it could potentially still help the Vikings out in the long term as well.
