Linebacker has now entered the conversation as an injury concern for the Cincinnati Bengals ahead of the regular season.

According to Fox 19’s Joe Danneman, the Bengals held out second-round linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. on Thursday due to what coordinator Al Golden called a “lower extremity” setback.

While Knight was out, Oren Burks, a veteran the Bengals signed in free agency, took snaps in Knight’s place.

This is the last thing the Bengals want to hear for a struggling position that plans to have Knight play a big role. He’s been projected to get a solid snap count next to Logan Wilson in the wake of Germaine Pratt’s departure.

If Knight misses notable time, Burks and perhaps Joe Giles-Harris could get looks in that spot, with rookie Barrett Carter and Maema Njongmeta also options.
