WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The high school football season kicked off with a smattering of games on Thursday night. All five Valley teams were in action on the first night of the new season.
D.C. Everest opened the year on the road at Rice Lake. While Everest rallied from a 14-0 deficit, Rice Lake took the lead with under 20 seconds left to steal the win 30-25. Everest returns home next Thursday for a date with Rver Falls.
At Thom Field, Wausau West kickstarted their season with a convincing 42-21 win over Superior. Joe Graveen had a strong showing, including an impressive two-minute drill to end the half, giving West a 35-7 halftime lead. The Warriors travel to Hudson next week for their next contest.
SPASH also opened its season with a home win, beating Chippewa Falls 43-15. The Panthers took an early lead, establishing a strong offensive tempo. They will face Superior next week in Superior.
Rounding out the Valley, Marshfield fell to New Richmond 49-25 and Wisconsin Rapids lost at River Falls 45-0.
