Bills predicted to solve WR crisis with trade for injury-prone NFC standout originally appeared on The Sporting News

The Buffalo Bills haven’t totally set their wide receiver depth chart in stone this summer.

Between injuries and inconsistency, there might still be WR jobs for the taking as the preseason heads toward its final game.

There might also be room for a trade.

That’s what Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay predicts. He suggests the Bills should trade a seventh-round pick to the Detroit Lions for Tim Patrick.

“General manager Brandon Beane clearly understands the Bills need upgrades in the receivers room, as they recently signed Grant DuBose and have veteran Gabe Davis—who started his career with the club before an unsuccessful campaign with the Jacksonville Jaguars—coming in for a visit following the release of Kaden Prather,” Kay writes. “If Davis doesn’t work out (he’s coming off a knee injury that cut short his 2024 season), the Bills should look to the trade market to acquire a steady veteran such as Tim Patrick. While the 31-year-old has had injury issues of his own, he’s coming off a promising season with the Lions. Patrick likely wouldn’t cost the cash-strapped Bills much, as Detroit has a logjam in the receiving corps and might be willing to move on from Patrick for cheap.”

Patrick is a bit of an inspiring story. He sustained multiple brutal knee injuries when he was with Denver, never really allowing his career to get off the ground.

He finally had some bright spots for the first time in a long time last season with the Lions.

Patrick overlaps a bit with the Bills’ bigger targets on the perimeter, Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer.

That doesn’t mean his veteran presence wouldn’t be a plus overall for Buffalo.

Josh Allen certainly wouldn’t mind having Patrick to throw to down near the end zone.

Patrick is also the sort of perseverant grinder that Bills Mafia would quickly fall in love with.

All told, not a bad trade idea.
