The Miami Dolphins wrapped up training camp with their final joint practice Friday. But after the session with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Dolphins center Aaron Brewer pointed at the Chicago Bears as an example of how not to practice.

“That first joint practice with Chicago, I felt like that was just some BS because they were out there tackling and this and that,” Brewer said. “It was like fake physicality; if they’re out there playing tackle football and everybody else was out there playing seven-on-seven or something, it’s fake physicality.”

The Dolphins and Bears met for a joint practice on Aug. 8 in Chicago where, according to Miami head coach Mike McDaniel, the two teams agreed to a “thud only” session.

“We’re thud only. We’re not tackling today,” McDaniel told reporters ahead of the practice. “It’s kind of a risky venture in joint [practices]. Joints are already competitive enough, so you’re trying to keep guys productive and staying away from stuff after the whistle. If there is tackling, that wasn’t allowed and somebody will be pissed about it.”

The Bears didn’t practice like they got the memo.

The Dolphins also lost wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to a minor injury in the practice after he was hit by Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. Skirmishes between Dolphins and Bears players reached the point that McDaniel ran on to the field to break one up.

“He thinks fights are a waste of time — we’re here to practice,” Dolphins guard James Daniels said after the practice, via ESPN. “If you throw a punch in a game, you’re going to get ejected. So that’s how he’s looking at it, and we’re really the same way. We’re not trying to fight, we’re just trying to practice, go against each other, get some good looks and then go home.”

Brewer’s comments didn’t go unnoticed Thursday. Bears safety Jaquan Brisker reacted on social media:

The Dolphins and Bears played to a 24-24 tie in preseason and won’t meet in the regular season this year.
