Pete Carroll said one thing, but it feels like something different.
The Arizona Cardinals play the Las Vegas Raiders in their preseason finale Saturday night at State Farm Stadium. Kickoff is at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. Arizona time). Arizona will not play its starters and probably won’t play key rotational backups.
However, they will face at least some of the starters for the Raiders.
Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said earlier this week that the starters would be “live” for the preseason finale, but that doesn’t mean we will see quarterback Geno Smith, rookie running back running back Ashton Jeanty or pass rusher Maxx Crosby.
Raiders Wire’s Levi Damien believes this: the veteran first teamers and solidly entrenched starters will not play. Rookies (aside from likely Jeanty) and guys battling for jobs could see snaps.
With some starters in the game, it will be a test for the Cardinals’ second-team offense and defense to see if they can compete and not fall too far behind.
