Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with veteran wide receiver Tyquan Thornton for a 58-yard gain in the Kansas City Chiefs‘ preseason finale against the Chicago Bears on Friday night.
Mahomes, who was only expected to see the field for a few drives, wasted no time getting Thornton involved in the passing game, targeting him deep downfield on the Chiefs’ second possession of the game.

Thornton, a former New England Patriot who joined Kansas City’s practice squad last season, made the most of his opportunity, making a diving effort to reel in Mahomes’ pass.
Take a look at this video of Thornton’s impressive catch, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs’ official account:
While Thornton entered the preseason with a slim chance of cracking Kansas City’s 53-man roster, this play may be enough to convince the Chiefs’ coaching staff that he is too talented to let go when hard decisions are made later this month.
Stay tuned to see if Thornton will make another big play in Kansas City’s preseason finale against Chicago.
