The Philadelphia Eagles closed out the preseason with a narrow 19-17 win over the New York Jets.
Following the game, Head Coach Nick Sirianni spoke with reporters and gave an injury update on quarterback Tanner McKee, who hasn’t practiced since Tuesday due to a finger injury.
“We’ll see. You guys know he’s dealing with a finger,” Sirianni said when asked about McKee’s status for Week 1. “He’s working to get back. We’ll see where he is.”
Reporters followed up by asking Sirianni whether he’d feel confident going with Kyle McCord as Jalen Hurts’ primary backup if Tanner McKee isn’t ready for the season opener.
“Kyle has done some good things. And I thought he did some good things, played situational football today. I feel good about the roster as a whole and where we are right now, at all positions.”
McCord was the only quarterback to play on Friday night, indicating that he’s won the QB3 battle over Dorian Thompson-Robinson. The sixth-round rookie had an uninspiring performance, however, finishing the game 15/35 passing for 136 yards and an interception.

The talent gap between McKee and McCord is fairly wide at this stage of their respective careers. If there is any uncertainty surrounding McKee’s availability, the Eagles should consider external options.
