When Ben Johnson was hired as the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, he moved quickly to bring in 28-year old Declan Doyle as his offensive coordinator.
Doyle, who spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos before getting his first opportunity as offensive coordinator with Chicago, will be tasked with learning under Johnson while also keeping the offense rolling for quarterback Caleb Williams.

Working with Johnson for the first time, Doyle has already seen the intensity of the new Bears coach, including how it has raised the level of the rest of the coaches inside Halas Hall. Doyle praised Johnson and the work he’s already displayed in his first offseason with Chicago, saying that the head coach works with a clear chip on his shoulder.
“From an organizational standpoint, Ben has a very, very high standard every day,” Doyle said. “The unique thing about Ben, obviously you guys see it at times doing his media stuff, Ben has an edge to him, he has a chip on his shoulder. He really holds everybody in the building to a very high standard at all times.
“Overall, he does an excellent job of saying ‘It shouldn’t be comfortable,’ it really shouldn’t feel like we’re walking in here and just going step-by-step. Ben is saying ‘Hey we need to feel some pressure here to be able learn as quickly as we can, be able to adapt, and same thing from a coaching standpoint, same thing with the front office, and he’s doing a great job holding that standard.”
Johnson has certainly brought an energy and aura to him that has been missing from the head coaching spot in the Bears franchise for quite some time. He’s got plenty to prove in his first year, but he’s creating the standard that will surely elevate everyone in the organization from the top all the way down.
