Cleveland Browns tight end Blake Whiteheart exited the preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams. Whiteheart suffered a knee injury after being upended by a Rams linebacker during the second quarter.
Whiteheart was immediately ruled out for the rest of the game. He’ll likely need additional testing to determine the severity of the injury. Whiteheart has been a solid option for the Browns at tight end. He played in eleven games with the Browns last year after being signed to the practice squad at the start of the season. Whiteheart primarily served on the special teams unit. Whiteheart is a competent inline option who can block well enough and has proven to be a consistent catcher of the football.

Whiteheart was likely to make the Browns’ 53-man roster before the injury as the primary backup tight end. The Browns brought in Sal Cannella to replace Whiteheart. Cannella is a longtime NFL veteran who has made a name for himself in spring league football. Cannella is a fantastic receiving threat he has made the All-UFL team over the prior two years.
The Browns have spent a lot of resources bolstering their tight end room. If Whiteheart does miss extended time, the Browns have a good group of players to draw from.
