In a game where the Chicago Bears starting offense struggled against the Kansas City Chiefs in their preseason finale, running back D’Andre Swift showed some life.

Amid the offense’s early struggles in the first quarter, Swift was one of the lone standouts where he had 28 yards on seven carries, as well as an impressive six-yard reception where he leapt over a defender.

Swift and head coach Ben Johnson have familiarity dating back to their time with the Detroit Lions, and Swift will be looking for a bounce back season after a disappointing first year in Chicago. Speaking to the media after the game on Friday night, Johnson praised the veteran running back, liking several different aspects of his game in the win.

“He is hitting it hard. He is decisive,” Johnson said. “I see him turn on the gas when he sees a little crease. He is dynamic and he is explosive. You feel that. He showed that again tonight. I felt and what I appreciated on 3rd and 1, you could see him see a little bit and then turn on the gas and put his shoulders down to get us a first down. Those are areas we will continue to harness out of him.”

An uptick in production from Swift this season will certainly help take the pressure of quarterback Caleb Williams in this new-look offense, something that will very much be needed. Swift’s familiarity with Johnson, as well as another year in Chicago, should lead the Bears to get the player they signed to a three-year, $24 million contract last offseason.
