Top Tennessee Titans contributors Calvin Ridley, JC Latham and T’Vondre Sweat have all missed time in training camp practice in recent weeks, but coach Brian Callahan said he believes all three are on pace to be back for the Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 7.
“I think all those guys are tracking for Week 1 without a ton of concern at the moment,” Callahan told media on Aug. 23. “But we’ll see how the practice week goes. It’s time to get those guys back and get moving and get ready to go play football for real. I feel good about where they’re all at, but we’ve got to make sure we manage it and we’re doing the right things by them so they’re back and ready to roll for Week 1.”

Sweat, a second-year defensive tackle, has missed the most time as he’s dealt with an abdominal issue and the after-effects of having his tonsils removed. Latham and Ridley, two of the Titans‘ most reliable offensive stalwarts, sat out the Titans’ preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings on Aug. 22 after missing time in practice in the week’s build-up.
The Titans have been particularly cautious with injuries in training camp this year, sitting down any player who exhibits even a twinge of injury to guard against potential escalation. But Callahan admits that as the Titans ramp up from training camp into regular season mode, that might have to change.
“Training camp’s not over over, but for the most part we’re trying to get guys back now,” Callahan said. “I thought we had a hard camp. I thought it was physical. It’s time to start bringing some legs back and getting some guys fresh and ready to roll. We’ll manage that stuff.”

Callahan didn’t delve into the injury status of players who are dealing with longer-term or more visibly serious injuries such as cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, center Lloyd Cushenberry III and running back Tyjae Spears. Sneed and Cushenberry returned to practice in recent days and are ramping up with the goal of playing in Week 1. Spears was still in a safety boot and moving around using a scooter as of Aug. 22.
