Packers-Cowboys blockbuster trade sends $24M edge rusher, 52 sack machine to Green Bay originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Micah Parsons and Dallas Cowboys saga continues to linger as the regular season approaches, now just two weeks away. Despite the looming kickoff, there has been no meaningful progress, and the root of the issue appears to stem from Jerry Jones attempting to negotiate directly with Parsons — without involving his agent.

“The fact that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys believe they can negotiate a 9-figure extension with Micah Parsons without involving his agent says everything about the current state of the franchise. This entire situation is laughable from the Dallas side. It could’ve — and should’ve — been avoided. But instead, the Cowboys operated with pure arrogance, foolishness and stubbornness,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted.
Following mounting frustration, Parsons made the bold move to request a trade from the Cowboys.
“Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally,” Parsons posted.
Jerry Jones recently revealed that the deal on the table would make Parsons the highest-paid defensive player in terms of guaranteed money.

“I’ve agreed to give more money than has ever been given in terms of guaranteed money than anyone ever has as far as a defensive player,” Jones said. “I’ve done that. Now, I am the cat that writes the check. Now Micah’s got three years with the Cowboys left. He’s got three years. At some point somebody has to have the say over the other. At some point it has to be that way.”

Amid the tension, trade rumors are heating up — and one possible destination could be Green Bay.
“The Packers have been on the cusp of contending for several years but lack a generational talent like Parsons to anchor their defensive front. If they are willing to give up a package that includes multiple Day 1 and 2 picks — as well as a quality talent such as Rashan Gary — it could be enough to get Dallas to move on from Parsons this offseason,” Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay wrote.

Parsons would address a major need for the Packers, whose defensive front is full of question marks heading into the season. Green Bay also has the cap space to meet Parsons’ contract demands. For the Packers, this move could be the difference between remaining a playoff team and becoming a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
