Everyone has their take on which players should make the New Orleans Saints’ 53-man roster, including our own. But how do our takes compare to those flying around the Saints beat? We’re going to track the picks on every 53-man roster projection to see how they compare, who’s hot, and who may be on the outside looking in.

We’ll update this project as more outlets publish their final predictions ahead of Tuesday’s roster cuts deadline. Here are all of the roster projections we’ve surveyed so far:

And here are the number of predictions that included every player at each position group. We’re also keeping track of expectations for guys who may start the season on injured reserve (IR) or the physically unable to perform list (PUP), but given how few projections include the practice squad, that’s going to limit our scope.

QuarterbackSpencer Rattler: 9Tyler Shough: 9Jake Haener: 9

It’s common for teams to roster just two quarterbacks these days, but everyone expects the Saints to keep all three without a veteran in the room.

Running backAlvin Kamara: 9Kendre Miller: 9Velus Jones Jr.: 9Devin Neal: 9Clyde Edwards-Helaire: 1

The top four appear to be set. A lot of analysts like Edwards-Helaire to return to the practice squad, but if the Saints keep five running backs, he’s the top choice.

Tight endJuwan Johnson: 9Jack Stoll: 9Treyton Welch: 8Moliki Matavao: 1Taysom Hill: 0 (PUP 9)Foster Moreau: 0 (PUP 9)

It doesn’t look like Hill or Moreau will be ready for the season opener. Most expect Welch to round out the depth chart, but Matavao was a draft pick and may not make it through waivers.

Offensive tacklesKelvin Banks Jr.: 9Taliese Fuaga: 9Landon Young: 7 (2 IR)Barry Wesley: 2

If Young is healthy, he’s on the team. We’re still waiting to see how serious his ankle injury is after the final preseason game.

Offensive interiorTrevor Penning: 9Erik McCoy: 9Cesar Ruiz: 9Dillon Radunz: 9Torricelli Simpkins: 9Luke Fortner: 7Shane Lemieux: 2

The top five picks are sewn up, and most anticipate Fortner getting in, too, after the Saints traded for him last week. If they run deeper or go with a more familiar option, it’s going to be Lemieux.

Wide receiverChris Olave: 9Rashid Shaheed: 9Devaughn Vele: 9Brandin Cooks: 9Mason Tipton: 9Dante Pettis: 2Cedrick Wilson Jr.: 1

Neither Pettis nor Wilson will have to test waivers before signing with the practice squad, given their status as vested veterans, so that appears to be the path forward for them.

SpecialistsKai Kroeger: 9Blake Grupe: 9Zach Wood: 9

No arguments on special teams.

Edge rushersChase Young: 9Carl Granderson: 9Cameron Jordan: 9Chris Rumph II: 8Fadil Diggs: 4Jonah Williams: 1

Rumph earned a lot of fans this summer by outplaying former second-round draft pick Isaiah Foskey, and his experience in Brandon Staley’s system has made a difference. Diggs won over some support down the stretch, too, and he could make the team if the Saints go five-deep here.

Defensive interiorBryan Bresee: 9Davon Godchaux: 9Nathan Shepherd: 9Vernon Broughton: 9Khristian Boyd: 9Jonathan Bullard: 3John Ridgeway III: 0 (IR 2)

This is another group that appears to be set. The question is whether the Saints keep Bullard on the 53-man roster or bring him up from the practice squad. And the severity of Ridgeway’s pectoral muscle injury is something to watch.

LinebackerDemario Davis: 9Pete Werner: 9Danny Stutsman: 9Jaylan Ford: 8Nephi Sewell: 4D’Marco Jackson: 4Isaiah Stalbird: 4

There was more debate here than at any other position group; the only thing we could all agree on is that Davis, Werner, and Stutsman are safe. Ford is a good bet to make the team as the fourth linebacker, but that fifth spot is wide open.

SafetyJustin Reid: 9Julian Blackmon: 9Jonas Sanker: 9J.T. Gray: 9Jordan Howden: 7Terrell Burgess: 0 (IR 1)

It’s a little surprising to see a couple of projections leave Howden off, but the other players at this group have looked better over the summer. It says a lot that Blackmon jumped ahead of him on the depth chart so quickly after signing.

CornerbackAlontae Taylor: 9Kool-Aid McKinstry: 9Isaac Yiadom: 9Quincy Riley: 9Ugo Amadi: 9Rico Payton: 4 (IR 1)Rezjohn Wright: 2

Will the Saints keep six cornerbacks? Some of it depends on Payton’s injury, but Wright played really well in the preseason. Taylor’s uncertain status might demand they run deeper here than usual.
