The final stop on this year’s WyoPreps Preseason Football Tour was in Big Piney to check out the Punchers. They made it to the semifinals last year but would love to get back to Laramie, the site of the state championships. Big Piney was 5-4 overall in the 2024 season and tied for first in the Class 1A 9-man West Conference at 4-1. After a first-round playoff victory over Southeast, they fell at Lingle-Ft. Laramie in the semis. The Punchers are an experienced squad entering 2025 with seven starters back on both sides of the ball.
WYOPREPS PREVIEWS THE 2025 BIG PINEY PUNCHERS
Big Piney toted the ball for 277 yards per game on the ground. That was No. 2 in the class. They finished at 320 yards of total offense and 25.2 points per game. The Punchers do have to replace all-state running back Caden Clifford. Defensively, Big Piney allowed 290 yards and 22.4 points per game. The loss of Clifford does create a hole on both sides of the ball. The Punchers are hoping some players who were young last year can help fill that void. Big Piney will be led by Zef Zuniga on the line. He was the 2024 Class 1A West Conference Lineman of the Year and earned all-state last fall. He finished No. 15 in defensive points per game at 16. Zuniga made 81 tackles, which included eight tackles for loss and six sacks. Also returning are Gerardo Galvin at receiver and defensive back, Zavier Clifford (Caden’s younger brother), and Finley Strong at QB. Galvin caught 17 passes for 275 yards and 4 TDs. Clifford ran for 503 yards and 3 TDs. Clifford and Galvin chipped in 49 and 45 tackles, respectively. Big Piney hopes to capitalize on these returners and add more playmakers.
WyoPreps got to chat with Galvin, Zuniga, and Clifford to preview the 2025 season. They discussed how practice was going, what’s new with the team, how they describe themselves, some keys to the season, and more.

Coach Moffat likes how the first week of practice went. He touched on how he would characterize this group, what they’ve been focusing on, some thoughts on Class 1A 9-man, and more.
Big Piney scrimmages county rival Pinedale this week. They open the 2025 season at home versus Southeast on Friday, Sept. 5.
