The New England Patriots parted ways with former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Monty Rice on Friday. Rice was among the 14 Patriots cut as the team continues reducing its roster to the necessary 53 by Tuesday.
Rice has bounced around the league since his three-year tenure with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans drafted Rice in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. After three years marked by multiple injuries and a lack of production, the Titans waived him on Dec. 5, 2023.

The New Orleans Saints signed Rice one day later, but he never made the active roster. He was one of the final cuts victims in 2024. The Atlanta Falcons signed him to their practice squad on Aug. 30, 2024, but in October 2024, he was cut again.
The Patriots gave Rice another shot when they signed him to their practice squad on Nov. 5, 2024. He played three games with the Pats after his promotion to the active roster on Dec. 27, 2024, but Rice couldn’t find his groove with New England, so he’ll seek a new home or perhaps stick on the Patriots’ practice squad.
Through four years at Georgia, Rice was a solid linebacker that played with great anticipation. Rice totaled 219 tackles, including a team-leading 89 tackles in 2020. He was the heartbeat of the loaded 2020 Georgia defense, and he was named co-winner of the team’s Vince Dooley Defensive MVP due to his tackling prowess.
