Daily Dive: Training Camp Buzz – August 22, 2025

We’ve officially hit the most important stretch of fantasy draft season. Saturday is the single biggest draft day of the year, and that means every nugget of news can swing ADP, shake up draft boards, and make or break your league-winning strategy. Whether it’s rookies flashing, veterans sliding or coaches dropping breadcrumbs about how they’ll deploy their players, this is the time of year when small details become big edges. Let’s jump in.

The Giants’ rookie QB continues to look like a gamer. Dart went 6-of-12 for 81 yards and a touchdown Thursday while adding a 23-yard scramble before a scary tumble sent him to the blue tent for a concussion check. He was cleared but wisely didn’t return. Dart would’ve had a bigger day if not for Jalin Hyatt’s butterfingers on two downfield chances, though Hyatt redeemed himself with a score from Jameis Winston right after Dart exited. Russell Wilson is still penciled in as the starter, but Dart has the juice. If you’re looking for a late-round dual-threat stash in superflex, he’s your guy.

Godwin Back … Sort of

Adam Schefter reports Chris Godwin is being activated from the PUP, but don’t expect him on the field until October. The Bucs won’t IR him so he can practice, but with Godwin and Jalen McMillan sidelined, Emeka Egbuka’s ADP continues to surge. The days where we could get him in the double-digit rounds are in the past. Godwin, on the other hand, has to be downgrades him in draft rankings.

Commanders Backfield Gets Even More Messy

Dan Quinn revealed Chris Rodriguez Jr. is “likely” to handle goal-line and short-yardage work. That sets up a three-headed headache: Jacory Croskey-Merritt as the between-the-20s guy, Austin Ekeler catching passes and Rodriguez cleaning up the touchdowns. If that sticks, Rodriguez is an intriguing bench stash while Croskey-Merritt risks turning into a low upside volume play who could end up being overdrafted this weekend.

Jim Harbaugh refused to clarify whether Najee Harris (eye) will start the year on the reserve/NFI list, only dropping cryptic “when he’s ready, he’s ready” lines. If Harris misses four games, rookie Omarion Hampton jumps into the back end RB1 conversation. Don’t expect Hampton to last beyond the third round in 1QB leagues. As for Harris, it’s wise to let someone else draft him.

RB Market Heating Up

Dianna Russini reports the Browns, Chiefs and Saints are actively making calls on running backs. Cleveland has the shakiest room, with Jerome Ford and Dylan Sampson leading for now while Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned. The Chiefs and Saints just need more depth behind Pacheco and Kamara. If a veteran lands in Cleveland, Ford and Sampson’s value could crash fast.

Quick Hits

Matthew Stafford is back at full practice. He’s not playing this week, but he’s trending toward being ready for Week 1. That’s good news for Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
Tre’ Harris sat out Chargers practice with “tightness.” Despite the injury, Harris remains a fun dart throw late in drafts.
Romeo Doubs isn’t going anywhere. Matt LaFleur shut down trade rumors, confirming Doubs is locked into Green Bay’s starting trio. Doubs isn’t a fantasy option, but he could eat into Matthew Golden’s target share.

That’s your Daily Dive. A rookie QB turning heads, a standout WR delayed and yet another backfield turning into a three-man mess. With draft weekend here, these nuggets could mean the difference between landing a league-winner or grabbing a landmine.
