The Seattle Seahawks mostly played reserves in Saturday’s Week 3 preseason finale, a 20-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers. One of the non-starters who did not suit up was sophomore offensive lineman Christian Haynes. After the game, head coach Mike Macdonald revealed that Haynes is dealing with a pectoral injury.
That was the only explanation for Haynes’ non-participation. The 2024 third-round selection is the second-team guard after losing the starting right-guard competition to Anthony Bradford for a second consecutive offseason. The Seahawks are still assessing Haynes, who Macdonald believes suffered the injury during the joint practice with the Packers.
Seahawks general manager John Schneider is tasked with submitting his initial 53-man roster by Tuesday afternoon. The Seahawks will need to work through Haynes’ injury quickly. There’s a possibility Haynes begins the campaign on IR, freeing up another roster spot for a minimum of four weeks.

Sataoa Laumea would be the Seahawks’ primary backup guard in such a scenario. Rookies like Bryce Cabeldue and Mason Richman are competing from 53-man roster spots. Alternatively, it could create an extra roster spot at another position, such as wide receiver. Or perhaps Haynes will recover in time.
The Seahawks need to sort through that before Tuesday’s 53-man roster deadline.
