The Indianapolis Colts had to navigate a number of injuries during training camp, but the team continues to get healthier.
Last week, prior to the final preseason game, Kenny Moore, Kwity Paye, Alec Pierce, Bernhard Raimann, JuJu Brents, and Jaylon Jones all returned to practice.

When speaking with reporters on Monday, Shane Steichen offered some more good news, saying that he expects Nick Cross and Josh Downs to be at practice next Wednesday, when the team officially begins preparing for Miami.
“They’re progressing well,” Steichen said of Downs and Cross, via Locked on Colts. “We’ll work through that tomorrow (Tuesday). I would expect them to be back next week for sure. They’re still working through it, but they’re all progressing really well.”
Downs was working through a hamstring injury and Cross a hip injury.
Regardless of the Colts‘ quarterback situation, Downs has provided a go-to presence for the passing game, including in those critical third-down situations.

Cross, meanwhile, had a breakout season in 2024 and will again fill the strong safety role, this time paired with Cam Bynum. However, my guess is that in Lou Anarumo’s malleable defense, Cross will fill a variety of roles, depending on what the matchup and in-game situation dictate.
