In 2025, the National Football League had the first man to be a member of a Super Bowl Championship team who was a Graduate from Ocean Township High School since 1977.
Phil Villapiano was a member of the Oakland Raiders team that won Super Bowl Eleven. 48 years later, Kenny Pickett was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles team that won Super Bowl 59.
Pickett has experienced a unique football journey. After three average seasons playing Quarterback at the University of Pittsburgh, the 6’3″ Quarterback had the fourth most Passing Touchdowns (42) in all of Division One College Football. This led to him being selected in the First Round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But in just the last 17 months, Kenny Pickett has been traded three times. In March 2024, he was traded by the Steelers to the Eagles. Then March 2025, Pickett was traded by the Eagles to the Cleveland Browns.
Where Is Kenny Pickett Playing For The 2025 NFL Season?
Multiple media outlets are reporting the Browns are trading the 27-year-old Quarterback to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
When the Cleveland Browns first acquired Pickett, the team sent a 5th round draft pick to Philadelphia for the New Jersey Quarterback. Now the Browns indirectly get their pick back (Sonny Weaver Jr. would be proud of Browns General Manager Andrew Berry).
The Raiders need Pickett because their incumbent backup Quarterback, Aidan O’Connell, sustained a fractured wrist on his throwing arm. With O’Connell expected to miss six to eight weeks, and he was placed on Injured Reserve.
Pickett fits the profile of what Head Coach Pete Carroll wanted from a Backup Quarterback to replace O’Connell: “A guy that’s had game experience….an experienced player that could help us.”
Starting 25 of the 30 games he has played in his first four NFL seasons, Kenny Pickett came in relief of Jalen Hurts during the 2024 season when the Eagles’ Franchise Quarterback was diagnosed with a concussion in the game against the Washington Commanders.

Pickett suffered his own ribs injury, and was removed from Philadelphia’s next game against the Dallas Cowboys. Pickett was dealing with a Hamstring Injury during Training Camp with the Browns this month.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Pickett is the second player in the last 30 seasons to be traded 3 or more times within his first 4 years in the NFL. The other player is the Philadelphia Eagles new backup Quarterback: Sam Howell.
Kenny Pickett is one of only three Quarterbacks from New Jersey High Schools to win a Super Bowl and one of only 15 men from New Jersey to play Quarterback in the NFL. Here’s the full list:
