Lampeter-Strasburg grad Matthew Wright was released by the Carolina Panthers on Monday, the team announced.

Wright, 29, was competing with undrafted rookie Ryan Fitzgerald.

The deadline for NFL teams to get down to the 53-player roster limit is today at 4 p.m.

Wright was 0-for-1 on field goals and 1-for-1 on extra points this preseason.

He appeared in games for three teams last season after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of training camp.

He kicked in one game for the San Francisco 49ers, going 3-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points in a 36-24 win over Seattle. He suffered a dislocated shoulder while making a tackle on a kickoff return in the game’s final minutes and didn’t play again for the Niners.

He kicked in two games for the Kansas City Chiefs. In the second game, he made a 31-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Chiefs to a 19-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers that clinched the AFC West title on Dec. 8.

He ended the season by playing in two games for the Tennessee Titans.

Overall, the Central Florida product went 15-for-16 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points in 2024.

He also has appeared in regular season games for Pittsburgh and Jacksonville, as well as Carolina.

In his career, he’s appeared in 29 games, going 55-for-63 on field goals, with a long of 59, and 41-for-43 on extra points.
