The Titans cut 16 players Monday, including one former draft pick.

Tennessee still has plenty of work ahead, as all NFL teams must reduce their roster size to 53 players — from a maximum of 90 — before Tuesday’s 3 p.m. CT deadline.

There were no real surprises in Monday’s announced cuts, but it’s still noteworthy when a draft pick gets released. The Titans parted ways with wide receiver Jha’Quan Jackson, a sixth-round 2024 pick out of Tulane University.

The Titans drafted Jackson hoping he could become the team’s return man on punts and kick-offs, and because he is a speedy — if raw — pass catcher.

Jackson averaged 7.7 yards on 28 punt returns and 25.8 yards on 34 kick returns last season.

But after fumbling five times in 12 games, and losing three of them, Jackson was replaced as a returner and made inactive for the Titans’ final five contests.

He caught one pass for eight yards last year.

In addition to waiving Jackson, the team also released defensive back Joshuah Bledsoe, defensive tackle Josiah Brunson, linebacker Amari Burney, defensive end Desmond Evans, defensive back Jermari Harris, defensive back Jalen Kimber, defensive back Clarence Lewis, defensive back Davion Ross, wide receiver T.J. Sheffield, defensive tackle T.J. Smith, defensive back Julius Wood, defensive end Joe Gaziano, guard Arlington Hambright and center Sam Mustipher.

Wide receiver Matt Landers was waived/injured.

Wood played nine games for the Titans last season, recording 115 special teams snaps and two tackles. But he also has one game remaining on a six-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.

Hambright was on the field for 13 special teams snaps with Tennessee last year.

In releasing Harris, Kimber, Lewis and Ross, the Titans parted ways with four of the undrafted defensive backs they had signed in May. The team had given Harris $234,000 in guaranteed money, tied for the most among Tennessee’s undrafted free agents, per Over the Cap.

Three other undrafted defensive backs signed by the team in May — Garnett Hollis, Virgil Lemons and Jerrin Thompson — had previously been cut.
