The deadline for NFL teams to make cuts to get down to the 53-man roster is on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
What will the Arizona Cardinals do to get down to the right number of players at the deadline?
Follow our 2025 Arizona Cardinals live roster cuts updates tracker for the latest news and reports on the NFL team’s moves at the deadline for NFL teams to trim their roster for the regular season, which begins for Arizona on Sept. 7.
Running backs and linebackers are two positions to monitor, and intrigue surrounds some other looming roster decisions for the team as it gets down to the 53-player limit.
The Cardinals announced their first 12 cuts on Aug. 25. There were no surprises on the list, although it was notable that they released quarterback Clayton Tune, who served as their backup last season. That move — which was expected throughout preseason — leaves them with just two quarterbacks on the roster.
Here is the full list of cuts:
QB Clayton Tune
WR Andre Baccellia
CB Ekow Boye-Doe
TE Oscar Cardenas
OL McClendon Curtis
CB Steven Gilmore
DL Patrick Jenkins
LB Vi Jones
OL Roy Mbaeteka
WR Nate McCollum
OL Dohnovan West
LB Benton Whitley
The Cardinals now have 75 players remaining on the active roster. That means they need to make at least 22 more cuts, although it could be more if they activate any players from the PUP list ahead of the deadline.
When do Cardinals need to trim NFL roster to 53 players? Deadline for cut day
The deadline for NFL teams to trim their roster is at 1 p.m. MST (4 p.m. ET) on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
What’s next after the Cardinals get their roster cut down to 53 players?
The roster cuts that reduce teams to 53 players aren’t the end for NFL teams adjusting their rosters.
Teams have until 9 a.m. MST Aug. 27 (noon ET) to claim players who were waived from other teams. Those claims go through a waiver-wire process, leading to more adjustments to each team’s 53-man roster. The Cardinals have the 16th spot in the waiver order, though, which limits their ability to make additions.
NFL teams will then begin filling out their practice squads.
How many players can be on the Cardinals’ practice squad?
NFL teams are allowed to carry up to 16 players on their practice squad.
Ten of those players can have two or fewer accrued seasons in the league, while a maximum of six can have unlimited NFL service time.
A 17th spot can be used on an international player, which the Cardinals will use on offensive lineman Roy Mbaeteka, who is from Nigeria.
