The Chicago Bears are currently undergoing several injuries at the running back position, so head coach Ben Johnson is getting creative with one of their top playmakers.

During Monday’s practice, wide receiver DJ Moore was seen taking reps at running back with the team hampered by injuries at the position. Moore has seen looks at running back during training camp, as the Bears experiment different ways to get him in space. But it sounded by necessity rather than creativity.

ESPN’s Courtney Cronin noted that Moore was taking reps at running back during individual drills on Monday, this coming after the Bears waived both Ian Wheeler and Royce Freeman as part of roster cuts. Currently, Roschon Johnson, Kyle Monangai, and Travis Homer are all battling injuries, but putting Moore in the backfield and waiving two players at the position suggests there is no long-term concerns at the position behind D’Andre Swift.

Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle spoke following Monday’s practice and said that the injuries will force the coaching staff to be creative on how to get everyone involved, and Moore’s involvement in the backfield is an indicator of that.

Moore is a unique talent who can help Chicago in a plethora of ways, especially with the new-look offense under first-year head coach Ben Johnson, and he could become an even more dangerous playmaker this season.
