The Seattle Seahawks (and 31 other organizations) are tasked with submitting their initial 53-man rosters by Tuesday’s mid-afternoon deadline. League-wide cuts are occurring all over the league. One of them has the Seahawks reliving one of their lowest moments in franchise history.
The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran quarterback John Wolford. The experienced signal-caller previously played for the NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams from 2019 to 2022. During the 2020 playoffs, Wolford started a 30-20 wild-card victory over the Seahawks, making him 1-0 in the playoffs at Lumen Field.
Context is important. Wolford actually exited that contest during the first quarter with a neck injury. The injured Jared Goff had to step in and replace Wolford. Goff played the majority of reps at quarterback, completing 9-of-19 passing attempts for 155 yards and a touchdown.
Wolford had completed 3-of-6 passes 29 yards before exiting. The former Wake Forest legend actually started the Rams’ regular-season finale after Goff was originally injured versus the Seahawks in Week 16. With the playoffs on the line, Wolford threw for 200+ yards and rushed for 50+ more as the Rams defeated the Cardinals 18-7 to make the playoffs and earn the wild-card date with the Seahawks.
The Seahawks want to forget all about John Wolford.
