GREEN BAY (WLUK) — An area charity softball game is reaching a milestone this year.
The 25th Anniversary Green Bay Charity Softball Game will be held Friday, May 23 at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will host the game, which features Packers players and celebrities.
“We’re excited. [This is] my second year kind of helping run the show,” Love said. “25th anniversary is pretty special. Obviously, the game’s been going on for a long time, so to be able to take the torch and kind of just carry it and keep it going, it’s pretty cool.”
Love said all the support from fans each and every year is part of what what makes the charity softball game such a great tradition.
“I know the fans are a big part of this game. They show out every year and pack that stadium out, so hopefully we can get as many fans as possible out there… It’s going to be another awesome event, another awesome year,” Love said.
Although the roster for the game is not finalized yet, on Wednesday, Love did reveal another Packers quarterback will be joining him on the offense team: back-up Malik Willis.
“I know the players are excited to get out there and show off their softball skills. We’ve been working and training very hard over there to get ready for this game,” Love joked.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
Parking lot opens: 4 p.m.Stadium gates open: 5 p.m.Home run derby: 6 p.m.Softball game starts: 7:05 p.m.
The money raised will benefit Love’s Hands of 10ve Foundation.
“We just started Hands of 10ve, I believe we started it right before last year’s softball game, actually. It was something I’ve always wanted to do and obviously, something that is a blessing to be able to give back and raise money for certain causes that feel special to me,” Love said.
Last year, longtime host of the charity softball game, former Packers player Donald Driver, handed his hosting duties over to Love. Driver is also expected to be in attendance for the game this year, interacting with fans.
