ASHBURN, Va. (7News) — It’s one of the hardest days of the year on the NFL calendar when teams have to trim their roster to 53 players.

Tough decision, heartbreak, it’s all part of the job. That’s life in the NFL.

The Washington Commanders made a big decision on Tuesday on their third-string quarterback.

Josh Johnson made the initial 53-man roster and Sam Hartman got released, but could be brought back for the practice squad.

Washington put right guard Sam Cosmi on the “Physically Unable to Perform” list. That means he is out for the first four weeks of the season. Cosmi is recovering from a torn ACL.
