Former Missouri Tigers quarterback Brady Cook wasn’t immune to Tuesday’s roster cut-downs.
The New York Jets waived the longtime Tiger just ahead of the deadline, finalizing their initial 53-man roster. The St. Louis native previously signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent.

The odds of Cook making the roster seemed higher earlier this week after the Jets waived former Nebraska and Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez. That move initially seemed to clear the way for Cook as the third-string QB in New York.
Instead, the Jets have just two quarterbacks rostered between Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor. Taylor missed the preseason while recovering from knee surgery, though head coach Aaron Glenn said he was confident in Taylor’s return.
Cook completed 25 passes on 38 attempts this preseason for 235 yards and one touchdown.
He closed out his Mizzou career throwing for 2,535 yards with 11 touchdowns last season, including an offensive MVP performance in the Music City Bowl; he threw for 287 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for another 54 yards in the 27-24 win over Iowa.

Cook became the first Tiger in program history to reach both 9,000-plus passing yards (9,013) and 1,000-plus rushing yards (1,209) for a career. He also threw for 49 touchdowns in 46 games. He’s one of four Mizzou QBs with 10,000 yards of total offense for their career.
Former Mizzou kicker Harrison Mevis was also on the Jets’ list of cuts. Mevis signed with New York in June 2025 after a season with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.
