It’s that time of year, when teams across the NFL must trim their rosters from the bloated 90 players allowed during the offseason to the 53 each is allowed during the regular season.
For the Seattle Seahawks, that is no different, with the 38 cuts necessary to get from 91 players down to 53 due to the league office by 4pm New York time on Tuesday.
Roster cuts, of course, mean heartbreak for fans, but it’s also a time when work is hurried as we rush to publication, which can sometimes lead to amusing typos.
In another roster cuts moment worth looking back and laughing, one year I accidentally hit publish on the draft of the initial 53 man roster instead of the working copy of the roster cuts tracker. That meant that the draft of the initial 53 man roster went live right as fans were frantically checking online for an announcement from the team, and in a matter of minutes the accidental 53-man roster post which wasn’t actually the 53-man roster did more traffic than a normal post does in its lifetime. Amusingly, that also led to the official Field Gulls Twitter account automatically posting a link to the 53-man roster on social media, and it was 100% all my fault because I clicked the publish button in the wrong tab.
Anyway, enough time spent laughing about the past, so without wasting any further time, here is the Seahawks 2025 initial 53-man roster:
