That was fast.
Just hours after being released by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, veteran safety Sam Franklin is set to sign with the Buffalo Bills, according to KPRC-TV’s Aaron Wilson. It’s not yet clear if Franklin is joining Buffalo’s active roster or practice squad.
Franklin, 29, is a vested veteran with more than four years of experience, so he is not subject to the NFL’s waiver wire, allowing him to join any team immediately as a free agent.
When the Broncos signed Franklin to a one-year contract in April, they gave him $1.337 million fully guaranteed. After the Bills sign the safety, they will cover $1.17 million that was previously owed by Denver.
After releasing Franklin, the Broncos are moving forward with Brandon Jones, Talanoa Hufanga, P.J. Locke, Devon Key and JL Skinner. Two other safeties who were cut — Keidron Smith and Delarrin Turner-Yell — might be candidates to return on the practice squad if they clear waivers.
