After the Denver Broncos traded wide receiver Devaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints last week, coach Sean Payton said three NFL teams expressed interest in the receiver, and he specifically name-dropped the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars weren’t able to get a deal done, and the Broncos ultimately accepted an offer from the Saints that sent fourth- and seventh-round draft picks to Denver. Jacksonville seems to have found a fallback option.

Exactly one week after New Orleans struck a deal with the Broncos for Vele, the Jaguars agreed to trade for Detroit Lions wide receiver Tim Patrick. Jacksonville will send a sixth-round draft pick to Detroit for Patrick.
It’s a full-circle moment after Denver ended up cutting Patrick last summer following the emergence of Vele at training camp. The Broncos attempted to trade Patrick to the Saints but weren’t able to finalize a deal. Patrick ended up landing with the Lions. One year later, Vele’s in New Orleans and Patrick’s in Jacksonville.
