When Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden said he was only wearing No. 87 because all the good numbers were taken, he wasn’t kidding. Now that the Bears have their initial roster set, Burden and a few other players are switching their numbers up.
According to CHGO’s Adam Jahns, Burden will now wear No. 13, previously assigned to wide receiver Maurice Alexander. Undrafted rookie wide receiver Jahdae Walker will wear No. 10, which was previously worn by wide receiver Tyler Scott.
Jahns also notes rookie running back Kyle Monangai will stick with No. 25, which was shared by cornerback Nahshon Wright. He will now wear No. 26, which was worn by defensive back Shaun Wade.
Burden created some buzz by initially choosing No. 87 when he was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. A Bears wide receiver hasn’t worn that number in a regular season game since Muhsin Muhammad back in the 2000s. Receivers today prefer to wear single digits or numbers in the teens.

Since Burden wasn’t able to wear No. 3, his college number, due to it being retired for Bronko Nagurski, he chose 87 until something more appealing opened up. With Alexander being one of the final cuts, No. 13 was available, and it’s a lot closer to his college number.
