BEREA — The Browns are piecing together their practice squad. While not completed, the team did announce nine players were signed Aug. 27.

Those players were:

NFL rules limit teams to just 16 players, unless they have a player participating in the International Pathway Program. The fact the Browns signed Zierer, who was part of the IPP, allows them the extra spot.

Among the other rules are that 10 spots must either go to rookies or second-year players. The other six are allowed to go to anyone.

The Browns have utilized the practice squad, like many teams, almost as an extension of the active 53-man. That’s through standard gameday elevations, which a team can elevate two players per game and each player can be elevated a maximum of three games before they have to be moved to the 53-man roster to be eligible.
