The Seattle Seahawks have signed rookie linebacker Chris Paul Jr. to their practice squad, according to sources.

The Los Angeles Rams drafted Paul in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft back in April, trading up 29 spots to do so. So when they waived him on Tuesday, it was regarded as the most surprising move they made during cutdown day. Rams head coach Sean McVay said undrafted rookie Shaun Dolac and six-year veteran Troy Reeder did more to impress him in “all four phases” of the game, while Paul’s obvious value fit as an inside linebacker didn’t move the needle on the roster decision.

Paul went unclaimed on waivers after being cut, making him free to sign with any team’s practice squad. Although the Seahawks haven’t made an official announcement as of this writing, sources started reporting his signing in Seattle around 10 a.m. PST. Adding a player from one of Seattle’s top rivals could help give better insight on how to attack the Rams when the Seahawks face them twice this year.

The Seahawks were particularly thin at inside linebacker on their initial 53-man roster, carrying Ernest Jones IV, Tyrice Knight and Drake Thomas as the lone three. Paul’s addition is a high-ceiling depth piece in Mike Macdonald’s defense who might not make an immediate impact but could pay off down the line. If he can meet Macdonald’s high standards at linebacker and stick around, Paul could be more than just a practice squad player someday.
