Just one day after the Pittsburgh Steelers finalized their initial 53-man squad, several roster moves are reportedly in the works.

On Wednesday, Mark Kaboly reported the Steelers were placing rookies QB Will Howard and CB/PR Donte Kent on short-term Injured Reserve, followed by bringing S Chuck Clarke and OL Max Scharping to the 53-man roster as replacements.

Clarke and Scharping provide Pittsburgh with much-needed depth along the secondary and offensive line, respectively.

It was rumored Howard was the most likely IR candidate following his broken finger earlier this month and QB Skylar Thompson’s preseason breakout. Kent making the 53-man roster surprised many, but it appears he’ll have to wait for his opportunity while on IR.

The short stint on IR should have zero impact on Howard’s development, as the sixth-round rookie quarterback, barring unforeseen circumstances, wasn’t expected to play this upcoming season.
