GREEN BAY (WLUK) — The Green Bay Packers’ 2025 roster has been set. Here is what it will look like at practice Wednesday:
Quarterbacks (2)
Jordan Love, Malik Willis
Released: Sean Clifford, Taylor Elgersma
This is the fifth straight season the Packers have only kept two quarterbacks on the initial 53-man roster. The last time was 2020 (Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love and Tim Boyle).
Running Backs (3)
Josh Jacobs, Chris Brooks, Emanuel Wilson
Injured reserve/Designated to Return: Marshawn Lloyd
Released: Israel Abanikanda, Amar Johnson, Tyrion Davis-Price
With an IR stint, Lloyd will miss at least the first four games of the season but has a designation to return. This is the second straight season the second-year running back has dealt with injury. That allows both Chris Brooks and Emanuel Wilson to slot in behind Josh Jacobs.
Wide Receivers (6)
Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Malik Heath, Savion Williams, Dontayvion Wicks
Physically Unable to Play: Christian Watson
Released: Mecole Hardman, Will Sheppard, Julian Hicks, Cornelius Johnson, Isaiah Neyor
Watson, who is still in rehab after ACL injury, will start the season on PUP, sidelining him for at least the first four games. With the exodus of veteran Mecole Hardman, who has three Super Bowl rings, that opens the door for Malik Heath who was a fringe guy for most of camp. Like Emanuel Wilson and Brenton Cox Jr., Heath is another undrafted rookie from the 2023 class back in Green Bay for a third season.
Tight Ends (4)
Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft, John Fitzpatrick, Ben Sims
Released: Messiah Swinson, Johnny Lumpkin
The Packers have decided four tight ends are the way to go. Kraft and Musgrave were locks ahead of training camp this season, though in past years, Green Bay has decided to take just three tight ends. Fitzpatrick and Sims shined during summer of 2025, making the choice to keep them both a no-brainer for general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur.
Offensive Linemen (9)
Elgton Jenkins, Rasheed Walker, Aaron Banks, Zach Tom, Jordan Morgan, Sean Rhyan, Donovan Jennings, Darian Kinnard, Anthony Belton
Injured Reserve/Designated to Return: Jacob Monk
Physically Unable to Perform: John Williams
Released: Kadeem Telfort, Trey Hill, Lecitus Smith, Brant Banks, Tyler Cooper, J.J. Lippe
Center/Guard Jacob Monk is still dealing with a hamstring injury and will miss at least four games after being places on IR. With the addition of Kinnard on Monday, and just the plan to keep nine offensive linemen instead of 10, Kadeem Telfort found himself on the outside looking in. Rookie John Williams is on PUP, forcing him to miss at least the first four games.
Defensive Ends (5)
Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, Kingsley Enagbare, Brenton Cox Jr., Barryn Sorrell
Physically Unable to Perform: Collin Oliver
Released: Deslin Alexandre, Arron Mosby
No surprise in the defensive end room as Gary, Van Ness, Enagbare, Cox Jr. and the rookie Sorrell all make the team. Rookie Collin Oliver strarts the year on PUP, forcing him to miss at least the first four games.
Defensive Tackles (6)
Kenny Clark, Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks, Colby Wooden, Nazir Stackhouse, Warren Brinson
Released: James Ester, Devonte O’Malley
With Nazir Stackhouse making the team, that means it is the 21st consecutive season that the Packers have kept at least one undrafted free agent on the initial roster, and makes it six Georgia Bulldogs on this year’s roster.
Inside Linebackers (4)
Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, Edgerrin Cooper, Ty’Ron Hopper
Released: Isaiah Simmons, Jared Bartlett, Jamon Johnson, Kristian Welch
Quite possibly the biggest surprise of the whole roster release is the absence of both Welch and Simmons from the 53-man. Early on Tuesday afternoon, the former Arizona Cardinals top-10 draft pick and New York Giant was announced to have been released, leading to the belief that Welch would make the team. But five linebackers were not in the cards for the Packers and Welch did not make the initial roster.
Cornerbacks (6)
Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Micah Robinson, Kamal Hadden, Bo Melton, Nate Hobbs
Released: Corey Ballentine, Kalen King, Tyron Herring
In his first season at the position, Bo Melton has become a fan favorite after making the transition from wide receiver to cornerback. In three preseason appearances, Melton recorded five tackles and a pass breakup drawing loads of praise from the Packers front office. Another surprising move was the releasing of Kalen King, paving the way for Kamal Hadden to make the initial roster. Nate Hobbs, who is recovering from a knee injury, is on the active roster to start the season. A good sign for his recovery.
Safeties (5)
Xavier McKinney, Javon Bullard, Evan Williams, Kitan Oladapo, Zayne Anderson
Injured Reserve: Omar Brown
Released: Jaylin Simpson, Jonathan Baldwin
Five safeties have made the initial 53-man roster, including Zayne Anderson who had been recovering from a knee injury suffered in the Jets preseason opener. Omar Brown, the darling of the secondary this summer, was placed on Injured Reserve with a chest injury and designation not to return, meaning his season is over unless the Packers reach an injury settlement with him.
Special Teams (3)
Daniel Whelan, Brandon McManus, Matt Orzech
Released: Mark McNamee
McNamee being released is not surprising considering McManus has been automatic this summer. The Irishman was their designated player for the NFL International Player Pathway Program and could join the practice squad as a 17th player with a roster exemption.
Green Bay will open up the season at home Sept. 7 at 3:25 p.m. against their NFC North rival, the Detroit Lions.
