College football teams across the state will wear helmet decals in honor of the victims of the severe flooding in Texas earlier this summer.

More than 135 people were found dead across several counties in Central Texas following severe flooding over Fourth of July weekend.

Videos and photos were posted by participating universities on social media Thursday showing a sticker featuring an image of Texas with a green ribbon wrapped around it being applied to every school’s helmet.

“Standing together and wearing our hearts on our helmets. A green ribbon over the state of Texas in memory of the victims and all those impacted by this summer’s devastating floods,” some of the posts read.

Team helmets displayed in the video included SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Houston, North Texas, Baylor and many others.

The Texas football profile also posted separate images on its X account.

During SEC Media Days, Texas safety Michael Taaffe wore a tie to pay tribute to nearly 30 young girls and their counselors who died at Camp Mystic.

The tie was burnt orange and had the initials of 27 people who died atthe Christian summer camp cherished by Texas’ Hill Country. The “DE” at the top was inhonor of Dick Eastland, the camp’s owner who was also a Texas Longhorns fan.

“I just wanted to show light to what’s going on in Texas,” Taaffe, a Texas native, said. “Football is cool, but this is real life and this is way more important than football. I wanted everyone around the country to know what Texas is dealing with.”
