Who ever thought the Houston Texans would turn to Stephen A. Smith as a voice of reason in the NFL?
Well, Wednesday marked a moment where the longtime ESPN analyst became a favorite of those down off the 610 Loop.
ESPN analyst and former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum offered a bold take during his segment on “First Take,” stating that rookie and No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward would “lead the Tennessee Titans to the AFC South division championship” this upcoming season.
In return, Smith made sure to publicly call the former executive for a horrendus take on the status of who runs the division.
“You have lost your damn mind,” Smith said. “This year?”
Tannebaum tried to rebuttal, but it didn’t matter since Smith was on a roll and wouldn’t let him finish his thoughts.
“That’s insane — you’re ridiculous,” Smith said.
If that wasn’t enough, Smith made sure to exclaim who the best quarterback and head coach in the division was just to drive the point home to the panel. Even in a weak division, the Texans remain supreme.
“I’ve got reservations about Houston’s offensive line. I’ve got reservations about everything in Tennessee — everything, everything,” Smith said.
The Texans open the regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 7 at SoFi Stadium. Houston has won 20 regular-season games since the hiring of Ryans in two seasons.
